July 28-August 18th
Kids entering grades 3-5
This summer, the Oxford Community Art Center is offering a four-week-long journal-writing workshop for students entering grades 3-5 in the 2010-2011 school year. The workshop will be limited to 10 participants.
During the workshops, students will generate starting points, thematic direction, and goals for journal writing done at the individual’s pace and leisure each week outside of class. Writers will also select, revise, and edit passages into more polished pieces of creative writing.
This is a terrific opportunity for kids who love writing to share their interests and ideas with other kids. The workshop will provide structure and support while guiding participants to develop the habits and schedule essential to regularly writing on their own. Taking place over the last four weeks of the summer, the workshop will also allow kids to hone and explore their literary skills before the school year begins.
Diary of a Summer Kid will be led by Kathleen Veslany, who has an MFA in creative writing and has taught at the University of Pittsburgh, the University of Arizona, the University of New Orleans, and the Western Pennsylvania Writing Project. She lives in Oxford with her husband and two daughters.
Cost: $38 for the four-week workshop

Her guided imagery CD's are available as a resource for people experiencing sleeplessness, pain or illness. The accompanying illustrations of yoga poses inspire, remind and renew a yoga practice.
Known for a gentle way with words and use of props, such as a chair or desk, she believes that we are all beginners and have injuries or limitations that we must work around.
