The Molly Franklin Dorkestra will perform their fourth “sesqui-annual” (once every 18 months or so) concert in the ballroom of the Oxford Community Arts Center at 7:30 pm on September 9.
Headlining the OCAC’s September Second Friday event, the ever popular “Dorkestra”, a brainchild of Oxford native, Molly Bowers Franklin, is composed of talented musicians, who just happen to be family members and friends from Oxford, Columbus, and surrounding areas. Franklin and the Dorkestra members choose the music and theme, and with the help of her brother-in-law, arranger, Maestro Thom Wyatt, of Columbus and the input of all Dorkestra members, a rousing, wacky and crowd-pleasing performance is fashioned.
In describing the kind of music the Dorkestra presents, Molly says, “The only way I could describe it would be if Lawrence Welk were to fall in with a band of gypsies!” This year Franklin and the Dorkestra members will spotlight Country & Western music – something new for Dorkestra. Favorites by Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Patsy Cline, etc., etc., and a guest appearance by Minnie Pearl (or a reasonable facsimile) will be included.
OCAC’s Second Friday is a free event that includes an opening reception at 6 pm for new exhibits, and a musical performance at 7:30 pm. The Art Shop and select third-floor artist studios will also be open.
