The Oxford Interfaith Climate Change Work Group (ICCWG) is a coalition of Oxford area churches and concerned individuals. ICCWG came together two years ago to work on the issue of Earth Stewardship. They share and support the work of individual congregations that are taking steps to reduce their environmental impacts as a way of honoring God’s creation. Since coming together the group has taken on a number of community-wide projects. They have jointly sponsored speakers and workshop presentations. They have developed educational materials on practical steps individuals and groups can take to conserve and protect the environment. They have also worked with Oxford City Council and Miami University groups in support of an energy audit of all city operations as a first step toward enhancing the city’s energy efficiency. In addition to these local activities ICCWG is a founding member-community of Ohio Interfaith Power and Light, a state-wide earth stewardship organization.

Tom Lynch has been referred to as one of the nation’s premier watercolorists. He has written 7 books and hosted several award winning PBS TV Art Series. He was recently listed as one of the nation’s top 20 teachers by a leading Art magazine. He is represented by some of the nation’s leading museums and art galleries. He has been the spokesperson for the entire National Art Materials Trade Association, and continues to be the international spokesperson for many leading art material manufacturers. Tom is currently featured on the new cable TV channel Visual Arts Network, and in 2007 he became the CMO and featured artist for Art Academy Live (the leading on-line education source).
The overall objective of the workshop is to show the vast range and flexibility of watercolor and to put emotion and conviction into painting by exploring, experimenting and developing creativity of each individual. Tom likes to put fun into the process of painting, along with enthusiasm and new techniques in an atmosphere that makes the intermediate and advanced painter feel welcome!
A goal for each day is set, and each student will see an example and understanding of that day's lesson. There will be daily demonstration paintings, with detailed explanations of all the "hows" and "whys" followed by individual attention to see that each student understands and has an example of the day's objective. Included will be tips on photography, "on-location" painting and matting. Also, Lynch's ever-popular program on salvage techniques for discarded paintings during the critique session.
Lynch brings to his class the same enthusiasm and energy as seen on his (6) national PBS series "Fun with Watercolor" that has been on PBS for the last 20 years. His vast list of accomplishments, credits and awards are listed in "Who's Who in American Art". He is a signature member of the Society of American Impressionists and numerous watercolor societies. His work is featured in all the leading art publications including the American Artist magazine, the International Artist magazine, the Wall Street Journal, Artist Magazine, Southwest Art and Arts and Antiques. He has written six books on watercolor techniques. Among his many prestigious exhibits was a one-man show at the American Embassy in Paris.

FEATURES THE MOLLY FRANKLIN DORKESTRA!
The Oxford Community Arts Center will again host Second Friday on June 12, 2009, from 6 to 10 pm. The Arts Center is located at 10 S. College Avenue, Oxford, Ohio. Featured musicians for the evening are t
he innovative band know as the Molly Franklin Dorkestra. Led by Oxford resident Molly Franklin, the band is a collaborative effort of many top-notch Oxford-area musicians who love to play imaginative music. When asked what style of music the Dorkestra plays, Franklin replied she didn’t quite know, but that if one likes Sherl Crow and Lawrence Welk, this might be right up their alley. Mixing trombones with drums and various other brass and acoustic instruments, the Dorkestra plays mostly soulful, humorous jazzy songs that Franklin has written. “I would say it mostly sounds like folk-rock mixed with upbeat orchestral doodlings,” said Franklin. “It promises to be a fun evening.”
Franklin has played with different bands and in various venues including twice with her mom Nora Ellen Bowers and sister Katy Bee, in the uptown music festival, and in a previous performance at Second Fridays under the name “the Bowery.” She performed for several years with Denver-based acoustic rock band, “Sweet Water Well,” which produced the CD, “Watermelon.” Molly also created a CD of original songs for children, “Double Daddy,” and has recently released her three-song CD, “I’m Making Jello with my Mother.”
She is excited to play for the OCAC’s Second Fridays. “It’s amazing what they’re doing at the OCAC. It’s pulsing with creative talent and I’m so excited to be a part of it. I hope at the very least I can bring in some new folks to see how dazzling the center is!” said Franklin.
The third annual art exhibit of Jean Vance’s AdVance Painting Class will open in The Gallery on this Second Friday with a reception beginning at 6 pm. The exhibition will include the “Zoo Gallery” of animal paintings on oriental paper but will also consist of images using a wide variety of techniques and styles. Some of the members of her Art class have been painting together since 1990. Vance always welcomes new members into her class of artists.
Lane Library’s seventh annual Our Own Art teen art contest winning artwork will also be on exhibit at the Arts Center. Teens from 13 to 18 years of age entered artwork ranging from drawing, sculpting, and photography. The submissions were judged on composition, originality, and overall presentation.
Open Studios, hosted by OCAC’s resident artists on the third floor of the Arts Center is a staple of Oxford Community Art Center’s Second Friday event. Guests can view the creative spaces of the artists as well as purchase one-of-a-kind pieces of artwork. The artists come from a variety of backgrounds, and display an assortment of styles from jewelry making, acrylic and oil painting, to watercolor and drawing. There are also several musicians with studios at the Arts Center who welcome you in to see what they are up to, as well.
Don’t miss the Art Shop, a new addition to the Community Arts Center. A co-operative of local artists display and sell their work in the shop located on the first floor of the Center. Works of art for sale include, pottery, jewelry, paintings fabric pieces and many other types of artwork,
